| This year our garden exceeded our expectations. With drought conditions, over the last few summers, we expanded the garden in an effort to increase our harvest. In the past we have tried to grow several varieties of each of the vegetables that we planted. This year we concentrated on less variety, but more plants of the best producers. This year the garden thrived. In part maybe due to our choices of plants, but largely due to receiving much more rain this year. Not only have we picked enough to overflow our pantry and freezer, but we have been able to share with the neighbors and several other families as well. Four years ago we started our garden as a 20x20 plot, and have slow increased it to 30x50. We are in the process of expanding it yet again, this time to 50x50. This is about as large as we plan on getting, at least until we can purchase a small tractor. We're getting older and, even though we have a large tiller, preparing the garden is a bit of a chore for us. Not to mention that it is a real pain to have to keep re-doing the fences every time we expand. Blessings, Mark | |
